Brother John Hertie Smith For March 2026, we proudly recognize Brother John Hertie Smith as our Nupe of the Month in appreciation of his exceptional commitment, steadfast leadership, and invaluable service to the Chapter and North Central Province initiatives.
Brother Smith is a Fall 1983 initiate of the Western Michigan University Chapter, the Gamma Beta (ΓΒ) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.. He is a Life Member of the fraternity and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University.
Professionally, Brother Smith is a retired executive from Cannon USA, where he exemplified achievement and excellence throughout his distinguished tenure.
Brother Smith faithfully served as the Chapter’s Reclamation Chairman, where his strategic leadership and relentless focus on reclamation resulted in consistent year-over-year membership growth. Under his leadership, the Chapter earned Province Reclamation Awards, a testament to his diligence, organization, and passion for strengthening the Bond.
He currently serves as Member, Chapter Board of Directors and as the North Central Province Reclamation Chairman, leading Province-wide reclamation initiatives with the same tenacity and commitment he demonstrated at the Chapter level. His leadership reflects not only structure and accountability, but heart and brotherly concern.
Beyond titles and accolades, Brother Smith embodies what it means to be a Brother’s Brother. He graciously opens his home to the Brothers for Football season gatherings, Summer backyard barbecues, and Fellowship and support for Brothers in need. His accessibility, humility, and generosity strengthen the fraternal bond in ways that statistics cannot measure.
