MWAC Wins 2016-17 Large Chapter of the YEAR in the North Central Province
Posted March 21, 2017

It was announced at the 96th North Central Province Council, March 17-18, 2017, in Minneapolis, MN that the Maywood-Wheaton Alumni won the Large-Size Chapter of the Year (2016-17). This was fifteenth time Maywood-Wheaton has been recognized as chapter of the year. This is the first time as a large chapter. Over the past year, MWAC has donated over $1000.00 to community ministries through our Spiritual Renewal initiative. As a result of our collaboration with the Diamond Youth Foundation, we expanded our Guide Right program from 4 high schools to 5. We now mentor youth in Bartlett, East Aurora, Bolingbrook, South Elgin, and Metea Valley HIgh Schools. We took students to tour Western Illinois University, in Macomb, IL. This year we increased our annual Thanksgiving support by increasing our turkey and ham giveaway from 200 to 250. We did all this and still made brotherhood our priority. We promoted our Senior Kappa activity by increasing the number of activities for our senior brothers. These are just a few of the accomplishments that were achieved over the past year and we are excited about doing even bigger and better things next year!
34th Annual Chicago Metro Founders' Day Banquet
Posted February 2, 2017
Congratulations Brothers! The 34th Annual Chicago Metro Founders' Day Banquet hosted by Maywood-Wheaton (IL) Alumni was a huge success. Our keynote speaker was none other than the 33rd Grand Polemarch of our fraternity, Thomas L. Battles, Jr. and he gave a keynote address that was exactly what was needed, given the times we are in. Brothers came from as far as Detroit, MI and Houston, TX to fellowship and enjoy the celebration of our Fraternity's 106th year of existence.
The official afterparty of the banquet, THE AFTERFLOW, was a resounding success with both the brothers and our guest.
Our goal was to ensure the all Brothers and guest would have night they would enjoy and find memorable as we enter into the 106th year of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. We sincerely hope that we achieved that goal.
Yours in the Bond,
Steve Carnes
2017 Chicago Metro Founders' Day Chairman

Kappa Alpha Psi Condems Flint, MI Water Crisis
Posted December 20, 2015
According to Thomas L. Battles, Jr., Grand Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., "Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity firmly believes that in denying the citizens of Flint clean water the Michigan state government committed a human rights violation which could have detrimental repercussions on Flint residents, particularly its children, for years to come. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. strongly condemns the denial of clean water as required by law to the people of Flint, Michigan and thus calls for Gov. Rick Snyder to swiftly ameliorate this public health crisis for which he and his administration are directly responsible." As a result of this severe crisis, Battles stated that "Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. urges its membership to call on Gov. Snyder, via letters and otherwise, to resolve this disaster by repairing or replacing Flint's water system immediately and for the federal government to ensure that these actions are executed through financial support and oversight."
